Text of Psalm 5
Listen to my words, Lord, as I cry out to you for help.
Pay attention to my voice, my King and my God, for I am praying to you.
Please, Lord, if you keep record of sins, who could stand? But you forgive, so we can worship you.
My prayers come before you like sweet incense, rising up to your throne.
Lead me in your truth, Lord, because I trust in you; guide me on the path that brings honor to your name.
Because of your unfailing love, I come to you; I know you will rescue me from my enemies.
Protect my life from those who do evil, and save me from violent men.
They speak falsehood; with hate in their hearts, they sharpen their words like swords.
They shoot their arrows at the innocent, aiming to destroy without cause.
But let them be shattered by their own lies; let their plots come crashing down.
But from you, Lord, I receive protection; I take refuge in your care.
Let all who trust in you rejoice always, singing for joy because you defend them.
For those who love your name, you bless them with your favor.
Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor like a shield.
