Text of Psalm 88
Lord, I cry out in the silence of my pain; my soul is overwhelmed by suffering.
Day and night, I call to You, yet Your silence feels deafening.
I am haunted by memories of better days; now, darkness consumes my spirit.
My heart is heavy, sinking deeper into despair; I am surrounded by shadows I cannot escape.
Like those fallen into an endless pit, I feel trapped in a hopeless void.
Your wrath rests heavily on me; Your waves crash over me, leaving me exhausted.
Darkness is my only companion; I am enveloped in relentless gloom.
You have driven friends away, leaving me utterly alone.
I cry out for help, but You do not answer; I am in the depths of sorrow.
My life deepens in the pit of death; I'm counting my days in despair.
Lord, why do You turn Your face away from my suffering?
My soul is in pain—how long must I endure this darkness?
I cry out to You in despair, trusting that You are still my refuge.
Save me from this darkness; rescue me from the depths of my pain.
Let Your mercy shine in my gloom, and bring me into Your marvelous light.
I hope in You, Lord, for Your salvation will bring light to my darkness.
My soul clings to You in the silence, trusting in Your divine grace.
