Text of Psalm 22
My God, I cry out to You, but You seem far away, like a whisper in the silence.
I call to You throughout the day, yet my voice seems unheard; my pleas go unanswered.
I am exhausted, my strength drained as my enemies mock and surround me.
They pierce my hands and feet, counting every one of my bones with cruel precision.
People look at me with disdain; they stare and shake their heads.
I am poured out like water, my bones out of joint; my heart feels like wax melting within me.
My throat is dry and cracked; I am like a broken vessel, discarded and forsaken.
Those who see me mock, shaking their heads: ‘He trusted in God; let Him save him now.’
But I am a worm, a Tola'at—despised and abased, yet I still cry out.
You have held me from the moment I was formed; supported me since I was laid in my mother's arms.
Do not be far from me, for trouble is near, and there is no one to help.
Many bulls surround me; fierce lions' mouths open wide, but I trust in You.
I am poured out like water; my strength is gone, but my hope remains in the Lord.
O my God, do not turn away in anger; hear me as I lift my voice in despair.
My cry reaches You, and You are my refuge; save me from the chaos.
I am poured out, exhausted, yet my soul still clings to You.
Do not ignore my plea; I am overwhelmed and desperate.
They divide my clothes among themselves and cast lots for my garment.
But You, Lord, do not be far; come quickly to my aid.
Save my life from the sword, and my soul from the power of the dog.
Rescue me from the lion's mouth, and from the horns of the wild oxen.
I will proclaim Your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise You in the assembly.
You who fear the Lord, praise Him; for He has not despised or turned away from the suffering of the afflicted.
For He has heard the cry of the humble and has not hidden His face from them.
From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear You.
The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise Him.
Let their hearts live forever; let all the ends of the earth remember and turn to the Lord.
For dominion belongs to Him, and He rules over the nations.
All who prosper will bow down and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before Him.
Posterity will serve Him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn, for He has done it.
