Its language anticipates Christ’s kingship, inviting believers to trust in His divine sovereignty.
Text of Psalm 2
Why do the nations shake with defiance? Why do they plot in vain against the Lord and His Anointed?
They declare, ‘Let’s cast off God’s rule and break free from His control,’
But the One enthroned in heaven laughs at their foolishness; He scoffs at their rebellion.
Then, in His anger, He speaks sternly, warning of judgment; yet, His voice also offers salvation to those who seek Him.
The Lord declares, ‘I have installed My king on Zion, My holy mountain,’
declaring His sovereignty, His promise to reign forever—an everlasting kingdom.
The Anointed One says, ‘You are my son; today I have become your Father,’
ask me, and I will give you nations as your inheritance, all the earth as your domain.
You will overthrow rebellious kings, shattering their rule like pottery, smashing their power with divine authority.
Now, kings, act wisely! Serve the Lord with reverence, trembling before Him,
honoring His Son, lest His anger ignite and you perish in your rebellion.
Blessed are all who find refuge in Him, trusting His protection and grace.
